Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from her household, the actress was grew to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. When she was a little girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessive compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety because of the word association. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place suitable for her. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot at the third time made an application and secured acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of Ford's classmates. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in 1990. Ford took the professional name of Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The regular theatre work she performed led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in 1996.
